Refund Policy
Space is limited. Anyone wishing to cancel their registration can do so up to 14 days before the first day of class to receive a guaranteed refund. If you cancel within the 14 days, we will only offer a refund if and after the vacated spot is filled. No refunds will be offered after the course begins. Violations of the Code of Conduct may also result in your removal from the course without compensation.
Code of Conduct
Haq Story School is committed to maintaining a safe virtual and in-person environment for students, offering a quality education, and supporting high standards of artistic integrity. Abusive behaviour toward classmates or instructors will not be tolerated at any point during the course, including in private messages, and will result in expulsion without refund.
Other expulsatory actions include: refusing to participate in group workshops; plagiarism and misrepresentation of others’ ideas as your own; racism, sexism, homophobia, or transphobia, either in your notes (written or spoken) or in your work; sharing recordings of classes; sharing classmates’ work without their consent.
The final say on whether or not you continue in class belongs to the instructor alone. If you have any questions, email admin@haqstory.com.
A.I. Usage
We understand that AI-assisted tools for transcription, research, note-taking and editing are now commonly used by writers and other creatives. We also recognize that students and instructors hold different views and comfort levels regarding the use of generative AI.
As a school, we do not prohibit the use of AI tools outright. However, we believe students should not present AI-generated writing as their own work, and that assignments, stories, pitches and other coursework should be substantially created by the student, even when AI-assisted tools are used during the process. At the end of the day, expectations may vary between courses and instructors. Students are responsible for understanding and following the guidelines set by their instructor and are encouraged to have an open conversation about what forms of AI use are appropriate for a particular class, assignment, or project.
Accessibility
Haq Story School is committed to offering a fulfilling and inclusive education experience. Online classes are held via Zoom with Closed Captioning features enabled through auto-transcription technology. In-person classes are offered at our brick-and-mortar studio, located in downtown Edmonton. Please note that the space is not wheelchair accessible and requires the use of stairs.
Courses include group exercises and class discussions, during which students will be required to participate; accommodations can be made for students with speaking or other disabilities if communicated to Haq administrators ahead of schedule. Video is encouraged for all students in order to optimize the virtual classroom experience.
Courses are intended for live participation, however, if a student cannot be present for a class or needs to leave early, a recording will be provided via the student folder 24 hours after each class. Students are expected to be present and intellectually curious during class time. In addition to attending each class, you are expected to be complete and deliver writing assignments on time. If an assignment is delivered more than 48 hours late, that assignment may not receive instructor feedback. If you know you are going to blow a deadline, simply tell us and group mates.
Financial Support
If you’re a student in need of a supported rate, please fill out this application form. We might ask you for supporting documentation but won’t share any information outside of our admin team. Please note that there are only three (3) supported-rate spots available for each course.
We also provide the option to pay for the course in installments. Email your request to admin@haqstory.com and we’ll happily work with you to create a plan.
